The choice of a heavy shoe type basically depends from personal requirements. E.g. how often and how long as well as what you will be dancing (learner, hobby dancer, principal dancer etc.). Simply use our information guide below, to choose a matching jig shoe type:

In more recent times, chamois leather has been used for soles, and the uppers have been made of thicker stronger leather. Ankle loops are now standard on nearly all brands of soft shoes. Most shoes these days do not have pleats, but rather have a full sole, stitched right at the toe and the heel to the upper. These shoes will, by nature of their construction, tend to outlast pleated shoes.

Thicker plain leather is also sometimes used on the soles of softies, and helps make the shoe more durable and comfortable.

All of our manufacturers are adding a padding between the inner and outer soles, to help protect against impact shock. Some padding tends to collapse after a period, some is thicker than others, some more comfortable than others. Keeping in mind that many dancers start at maybe age 6 and go through into their 20's or further, the importance of protecting feet against jarring is obvious. Dancers MUST protect their feet during their dancing years, when bones and soft tissue are still growing and are liable to permanent damage!

Don't be too disappointed if your pumps wear out within 12 months! They get a lot of punishment, tend to be a bit neglected, and are not really designed to last much more than 12 months, though many seem to keep on going for years!

So the choice of a soft shoe type basically depends from personal requirements. E.g. how often and how long as well as what you will be dancing (learner, hobby dancer, championship or principal dancer etc.). Simply use our information guide below, to choose a matching Irish pump:

How to draw foot lines for verifying an order sizeIf you are new to our products or are unsure what size to order, sometimes it is a good idea to send us over an outline of your feet so we can advise you. We will measure it and inform you of our sizing recommendation. Please note that this is only our recommendation and doesn't guarantee the correct size, but it has saved many customers the inconvenience of sending shoes back for exchange. To ensure we can advise you as accurately as possible, we recommend that you follow these guidelines.

As an owner of a dancing dress you may be only too aware of the problems you can have selling your dress at the competitions. It is not every week you may be in attendance at the nearest feis and the dress either disappears under the bed or in the wardrobe.

Simply use our online-store with hundreds of international site visitors a day who are Irish dancers as well. You will pay nothing!

We receive many questions from beginners in Irish dancing and parents, who's daughter or son wants to learn Irish dancing. Mainly they want to know about the things that one should look out for, e.g. which is the right and appropriate first equipment and in which size they need which dancing shoes etc. This is why we would like to state some advise and useful hints:

First of all we recommend to talk to the Irish dancing teacher to see if they have particular requirements. Try to find out if he/she is equal to the situation of teaching Irish dancing to children. This is naturally not always the fact.

Some Irish dancing teachers also want to equip all pupils with the same kind of dance shoe. Try to make sure which shoe model they prefer before you go spend some money on a dance shoe purchase.
